The International Atomic Energy Agency is overseeing 73 tons of natural uranium in Syria, following disclosures about clandestine nuclear sites left over from the regime of Bashar Assad. Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan Al-Shaibani announced that the government began reporting nuclear materials to the IAEA in July and praised a recent decision to end a long-standing investigation into past nuclear projects. The IAEA is now working with Syria under a memorandum of understanding to promote peaceful nuclear uses.
